Russian teenager banned from tennis for nine months following anti-doping breach
The 17-year-old boy who was banned for nine months to take his place in the junior US Open doubles match against the Russian pair of Andrey Rublev and Denis Shapovalov has been suspended for “public performance.”
The youngster, who was banned for one year for “intentional, physical and verbal abuse” to fellow Russian player Andrei Voronin, will join the US Open doubles tournament on August 28, 2016 and be eligible to play in the main draw of the tournament again as a wild card.
“After careful consideration, I am writing to clarify that I am suspending Andrei Voronin from all professional tennis tournaments for one year, due to public performance and misconduct,” USTA said in a statement on Tuesday.
