Abcarian: It only takes one to tango? The revolutionary clarity of the ‘Ejaculate Responsibly’ movement might suggest otherwise. The way you have described it, however, you seem to be suggesting that a state (or the government) can get away with a crime like this without being accused of ‘tangoing’. That is what we’ve argued in favour of all along, so it’s curious that you seem to be suggesting such an extreme and counter-productive point of view.

I suppose I should make it clear, though, that the ‘Ejaculate Responsibly’ campaign was not a call for a ban on public sex. A number of people expressed their outrage at the sight of people having sex on a public beach in a public place, but that wasn’t the problem. The problem was that we were using the beach to publicise masturbation, to show a lack of respect to the millions of people who work hard and don’t deserve this. I don’t think that an increase in the number of people using the beach for public sex would have been beneficial to anyone.

The problem is that we seem to want a law that is so broad and vague that there’s no way of knowing what it means – and that’s exactly what the government wants.

I don’t think it makes any sense to say that one person cannot make a claim that a person was using the beach for public sex. I don’t think anyone will ever say that. Instead, we will have to make a subjective decision as to whether or not public sex was occurring when one of the women was in the water.

The problem is that we seem to want a law that is so broad and vague that there’s no way of knowing what it means – and that’s exactly what the government wants. I am not happy about this.

As I said in a previous comment, our government’s proposals are too vague for my liking.
