Review: ‘Sr.’ pairs the Robert Downeys in tender tribute to avant-garde filmmaker
The British have always had more than their share of genius, and the world’s first film to be written specifically, rather than simply drawn on the page, took quite a while for our fellow countrymen to crack the code, but slowly, surely, they did. On the day that Robert Downey Jr. first broke in, ‘The Grapes of Wrath’ had already been released in America.
Downey Jr. was never a household name, but he had a number of successful movies under his belt. ‘The Outsiders’ was a smash hit at the box office, he was the star of another one, ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’, was a critical darling, and he had a major role in ‘The Firm’.

After all, we as a nation love a great movie, and this was such a great one. It had the star power of John Ford and the acting by John Wayne, John Wayne, Clark Gable and all the rest along with such real music, and a simple story. Yet there was more.
